And now President Obama has also spoken out very clearly in favor of religious freedom, and importantly drawing a clear distinction between muslims and the Al Qaeda terrorists - a simple fact that seems to be escaping many AmericansQaisar Shareefnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3654291564129920745.post-88769099199151624362010-08-14T06:08:02.244-07:002010-08-14T06:08:02.244-07:00this speech is a must for any civic course. really...this speech is a must for any civic course. really happy to see how bloomberg, who is the mayor of new york city, has stood firmly in support of the mosque and islamic center being built in close proximity to ground zero in spite of some harsh objection to it from some. for those who don't know, bloomberg is a very successful ex-businessman who is worth billions, and is, of course, jewish.Adnan Asarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3654291564129920745.post-51791057731275073072010-08-14T06:07:07.896-07:002010-08-14T06:07:07.896-07:00think that the opponents of the mosque near ground...think that the opponents of the mosque near ground zero (it's actually 2 blocks away. There is also a mosque 4 blocks away from ground zero that pre-dates the World Trade Center, however it is not a huge community center) are using arguments that are rather disappointing. Newt Gingrich said that he will support the Muslim community center near Ground Zero when Saudi Arabia allows churches and synagogues to be built there. Essentially, "if you will not rise to our level, we will fall to yours." Even the Anti-Defamation League, which has been a proponent of Freedom of Religion right in America, has spoken out against it saying that it's okay for families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks to have "irrational opinions." I doubt that they would say that it is okay for Palestinians to be anti-semitic. Fareed Zakaria had received an award from ADL, and in response to this is returning it to them, saying that their stance on this issue is shameful. It is good to know that there are many prominent Americans in positions of power who are standing up for Muslims' rights to build a mosque/community center wherever they can. This includes Mayor Bloomberg, all of the various city councils in New York City who have overwhelmingly approved this project, and most recently President Obama, to name a few.

P.S. What makes this completely ridiculous is that this whole controversy was started by a "tweet" by Sarah Palin.Aman Shareefnoreply@blogger.com
